Attaining Education Goals: The Education Grant
April 16th, 2008 by adminEducation grants are given to individuals in a form of money which go to pursuing their educational goals. High costs of post-secondary education influence many people very negatively, as they simply do not have the money to pay for it. Then they should take an education grant, which gives them an opportunity to further their education.
The grant programs are not held at the level of universities, high schools, elementary and middle schools as they can not afford them. That is why they are held at a federal level. But what is good is that education grants go not only to graduates, but also promote programs or projects at the elementary, secondary, or post-secondary level. There is a number of types of education grants for institutions: honoring African Americans on campus in a particular university; giving computers or laboratory facilities to some school; financing a bilingual education program; sponsoring volunteer organization that organizes drug and AID awareness programs for adolescents.
This money doesn’t have to be paid back, but the one applying for a grant must prove that the money is necessary and that it is really aimed towards education-oriented goal. For those who look for money for post-secondary studies, sometimes sending personal information only is enough for being selected, whereas other specific grants will ask for a written statement where you will dwell upon the necessity of getting the money. To be eligible for an education grant college-bound students must meet residency, financial and academic requirements and it also happens that only certain programs of study are available for them.
If the grant is applied for not by an individual, but an institution, the requirements to meet will be more complex, because some extra forms should be filled out and a proposal needs to be written. In a proposals there should be some background information about the aim of the grant, the necessity of the grant, in which way the grant will be used, plans of implementing the grant, the staff, and a budget.
There are a lot of ways to look for grant opportunities available to you, but the most suitable variants are to go to a regional foundation library, which is located at most colleges. There you will also find books offering grant opportunities. If you have any questions, you can also go to the librarian. These kinds of books one can find at a high school counselor’s office or a university’s financial aid office. Sometimes these books can be found at usual book shops.
